LSW Ribbons for Computers in Libraries 2008

Thanks to everyone who made these ribbons happen. It was so much fun to wear them, pass them out, have people ask about them. Here are some cool photos:

Highly coveted Badge Rochelle and Erik

People have been asking about making them for ALA or SLA or other conferences. Here is what I did this time around. I can do it again if others pay and distribute them (as I won't be going to another national conference this year, most likely):

I got them at Performance Awards in Colorado Springs. They almost certainly don't have a website :). Here is the cost breakdown:

  • 100 ribbons @ $.55/ea.
  • 100 double-sided tape applied to top of ribbon @ $.06/ea.
  • setup fee: $15.00
  • and I paid a rush handling fee of ~ $10 because I ordered about two weeks before the conference.

(and you get to help pay for them!)

So Josh Neff, Rikhei Harris, and I (Steve Lawson) have ordered some badge ribbons for CIL2008. Like the ones that say "SPEAKER" or "VICE-PRESIDENT ELECT EMERITUS" or whatever. Except these are* cooler because:

  1. They are black
  2. They say LIBRARY SOCIETY OF THE WORLD

I strong-armed Josh and Rikhei into sharing the bill with me, but we thought it would be more affordable for us if we asked for a few pledges of support. I'm thinking that if five people pledged five dollars each, that would be very helpful in offsetting the cost that Josh, Rikhei, and I will pay. Plus it will feel more participatory and all that good stuff. (But mostly it will be cheaper for us.)

So, if you want to say "I helped bring LSW ribbons to the masses," pledge your five bucks by putting your name on one of the lines below. You can pay us when you see us in Arlington.

  1. Holly Blosser
  2. kate sheehan
  3. Christopher Harris
  4. Rochelle Hartman, because I care dammit
  5. Tim Keneipp, because liberry land should always be this much fun.

Thanks!

-Steve

  • Note that when I say these ribbons "are" anything, I'm stretching the truth because they are still being printed in some crazy rush-order process. I have every reason to believe that they will be ready before CIL. Plus, I told the dude that I would totally cry if they were late.
